Hi all,
I'd like to make a CD of my singing, for one of my friends, and I was just wondering which recording program you guys use? I've never used a computer to record files with a microphone before, so it's new to me. I was wondering if there are any programs that are free, but legal. I won't be using the program that often, so I didn't really want to pay a lot of money for something, that I won't be using that much. I've heard that there are a few programs that have demos, but how long do these demos last? any suggestions and comments, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Audacity is free and pretty accessible
audacity.sourceforge.net
there's also an email list for the blind regarding this program but don't know the subscription address off hand.

Hmm, when I tried Audacity I had some problems with it. Maybe I should look at again. I use Wavepad, which can be found at http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad I've found it and the other products offered by the company that makes it, very intuitive and accesible. Wavepad is free, but you can buy a Master's edition that has more editing features. (make sure you download the free version or it won't work after 30 days)
goldwave is the best way to go.
It's easy to use and the only disadvantage with the free version is the help file that keeps popping up.
You can ask me for help if you need it.
For recording, I use Cakewalk's Sonar for my initial tracking. I then mix down, and export into stereo wave files, wich get loaded into Sound Forge for editing, and finally, HarBal for that nice, crisp mastered sound.
